Founded by Jody Kurtz in 2013 as a Cornelius based Interior Design firm named after Jody’s
grandmother, Kathryn, and her great grandmother, Lilly, two of the hardest working women she knew.
With projects throughout the Charlotte, Lake Norman and Blowing Rock areas KLI prides itself on their
unique gift to design a variety of styles really well.
Jody’s passion for design began at an early age after exploring the homes her father and grandfather
built. Coming from a family of skilled craftsman, she quickly found this was the path that was carved out
for her and decided to pursue her calling opening the doors to Kathryn Lilly Interiors which quickly
became a sought-after brand in the Lake Norman area.
“When designing, we have one rule, never play it safe. We push our clients out of their comfort zone
because we truly believe all great designs require a unique element of surprise. When clients put their
faith in our team, that’s when the real magic happens.” Jody says.
Furniture with modern lines, anchored by traditional style. Tailored, but not fussy. Hammered metals, deep saturated colors, elevated moldings, lacquered in moody hues, wallpapered ceilings, animal print and obsessed with conversation starters!
My interior must
Fabrics red wine can't ruin. Although marble will always hold a place in my heart, red wine and marble aren't friends! Don't discount the power of perfect lighting; It sets the entire mood. Luxurious linens are a great investment. After all, on average, 1/3 of your life is spent in bed. Don't save your china for a special day. Instead, choose to make everyday special.
i'm a southern girl
Growing up in the Lake Norman area, exploring homes my dad and grandfather built was the beginning of my design obsession. A fierce work ethic was instilled in me from a young age. Hard work wasn't an option, it was expected. You work hard, pray hard, and love harder. I'm not your typical business leader, I'm a firm believer you're only as good as the team you hire.
Boss babe and lead designer
my design cup of tea
A soft, neutral backdrop with layered textures and dark accents. If a Tulum beach house were to have a baby with a modern Scandinavian apartment, they might just create my dream home interior! Perhaps there would also be a hint of English Cotswold cottage thrown into the ancestry too!
these are a few of my favorite things
Zellige tile, Venitian plaster, vegan sheepskins, furs & leathers, greenery, light toned wood, concrete, fluted walls & woven textures, chef's kiss!
oh you want to know more about me?
Well, what can I say? I'm a British girl living the American interior design dream! I'm truly passionate about interior design and am one of those lucky/annoying people who love their job! I would describe myself as hard working, travel loving, food devouring, animal adoring, exercise doing, outdoor exploring, Netflix binging kind of gal!
LEAD DESIGNER & TEAM QUATERBACK
I feel that style should reflect the personality of clients. My personal style would be classic and simple with a little eclecticism.
I love the new style of RH!
my favorite interior finishes, fabrics, etc.
Hermes orange has to be my favorite color, Holly Hunt furniture, Mark Alexander wall coverings, sheepskins, cowhides, and animal prints, acrylics in all forms, RH furniture, and Decorative Materials Tile in Denver.
a few things about me
I'm a Colorado girl at heart. A newcomer to NC, I love fashion, architecture, and of course all types of design. I love to travel and all the experiences that go with it. Travel makes life more interesting and inspires me to look outside the box. .
LEAD DESIGNER & DEFINITION OF FABULOUS
my design style
I mostly wear black so you may not be able to tell, I really love bold, colorful designs. I would say my style is very eclectic. I love anything from modern Kelly Wearstler pieces to vintage mid century modern finds.
I love Schumacher! I think they have the coolest wallpapers and fabrics. Funky shaped furniture, bold wallpapers, and colorful Terrazzo are currently on my favorites list.
…Or in English: About me! I was born in Germany and speak mostly fluent German. Having the chance to travel throughout my whole life has opened my mind to people, cultures, and most importantly architecture and design. I have two black cats that I consider my children. I am a major homebody, but I love hanging with friends and having a cold craft beer. IPA's are my favorite!
DESIGN COORDINATOR AKA OUR ’GLUE’
"Sooner or later, everything old is new again". My redesign style has no rules and is constantly changing, but always a lot of black, natural textures,“ and everything vintage. I like to see art with a story and I think if you love it then on one's opinion should matter!
My favorite design materials are comfy. Maybe it was 2020 or maybe they've always been my favorite. Comfy to me looks like oversize sofas, fur throws, favorite books, inviting warm colors, tile that reminds you of your grandmother's house, family photos reimagined, really anything that makes being at home feel therapeutic.
Besides being voted ms. popular, 1998
When I'm not able to hang with these cool girls you will find me at home with my fun girls Miller (12) and Palmer (8). My happy place is browsing the local antique mall. Pet peeve- people who don't return their shopping carts. No excuses.
interior stylist and curator of pretty things
I strive for a very relaxed, organic, laid back feel with touches of nature throughout. I think it's important to bring elements of the outdoors into a design in order to keep balanced. Frank Lloyd Wright says it best "study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you."
My dream house consists of
Grasscloth wallpaper, faux leather, warm wood tones, tumbled tiles, textured linens, a palette of greens and dashes of champagne bronze.

Born right outside of Boston, graduated in New Hampshire, now a North Carolinian for almost two years! I love to create 3-D renderings for our clients to help them better visualize their space and the impact of our designs. I also have a background in construction coordination, but when I am not working you'll most likely find me painting or discovering a new trail to hike.
designer and sketchup extrodinaire
My style is ever changing and evolving, but I always come back to transitional design with elements of California cool. I love a comfy and calm space and find inspiration everywhere! I believe a great palm or house plant can really bring a space together.
Lulu and Georgia is always a favorite of mine- All the texture and pops of color bring me joy, and of course, when in doubt wallpaper it out.
this is me
Originally from the DC area, my parents moved to Louisville, Kentucky when I was young where I learned to love horses, racing, and college basketball. I attended the University of South Carolina and fell in love with the Carolinas.. I moved to Charlotte after graduation and never looked back! I have always had a love for design and fell like I am waking up to my dream job everyday!
BUSINESS/ MARKETING GURU & OUR BRIGHT RAY OF SUNSHINE
I've come to adore the simplistic approach- with warm, wood toned accents and loads of different textures. If I had to pinpoint it to an exact style it would be a big mix of rustic, modern, and industrial. I love the open concept, but the coziness that textures can bring!
Definitely wallpapers and grass cloths! They are making a comeback and I love the additions they can make to rooms! I always love adding porcelain tiles, leather, textured fabrics, wood beams and black window & door trims!
this is me
Here's just a little bit about me! I am North Carolina born and raised! I recently graduated from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC and have since moved back to the Lake Norman area. Interior design has been my passion since I was a little girl, and every day brings something new! My next biggest passions after interior design- slushees and puppies! Well, slushees might be on top if we're being honest.
DESIGNER & A BREATH OF FRESH AIR
if i won the lotto
I'm an animal lover so my dream is probably different from many others. I don't need shiny gold or silver. I envision building a sanctuary to rescue all the animals in the world. Perhaps I'll become an animal welfare veterinarian.
Well, of course the beach or the mountains sound lovely, however, I dream of being on a farm. Maybe I'd take a time capsule back to the early 1900's when life was a little simpler, after all we all need an escape from technology. Bring on the chickens and the vegetable garden. I would live off my land and find joy in managing it all. A sunroom is a must, that's where you'd find me after a long day's work. Now throw in a good massage once in a while, I could get used to that luxury.
Family is my number one and that includes my animals. Some say they have the life. I enjoy working in my garden and mowing my lawn is my peaceful place, where I let my mind wander for another day. I'm a natural number cruncher and thrive on organization.
NUMBER CRUNCHER & CALMING PRESCENCE
